You can now predict your risk for getting type 2 diabetes, thanks to a team of medical researchers in the U.K. that have created an online calculator: http://www.qdscore.org/. The tool is based on an algorithm that culls data from more than two million British patients, and can estimate the 10 year risk of diabetes. Risk factors include ethnicity, age, sex, weight, smoking status, and family history. While the calculator isn’t designed for clinical use and uses British features (like U.K. postcodes and ethnicities), the researchers say the sample pool is large enough that Americans can use it to get their results. Just leave the postcode field blank, and if you don’t know your body mass index, use Google’s unit conversion calculator to get your height and weight in kilos and centimeters.
